2022 Wartime Weekend.

Every October Pickering hosts its world famous Wartime Weekend. This increasingly popular occasion originally focused on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway but has expanded to include Second World War and 1940s themed events throughout the town.
Unquestionably one of the most popular periods in the year, each autumn thousands of people arrive in Pickering from far and wide enjoy a weekend of war-time entertainment.
The history of the Pickering 1940s weekend can be traced back to the first annual railway in wartime event in 1992. The event was founded to encourage and inspire visitors to get into the spirit of the 1940s. The event includes an array of events, exhibitions and live entertainment. There are plenty of opportunities for those who want to take part. If you fancy dressing up in period costume or just want to see the themed displays then Appleleaf Cottage is an ideal place to stay and immerse yourself in the occasion.
We are delighted to be able to offer accommodation during the Pickering 1940s War Weekend ideal for those wishing to attend the various events throughout the weekend. Our popularity for the 1940s weekend is due to its proximity to the town centre and its convenient location for exploring the other themed stations along the route of the railway line.
